Vitamin C and Mental Health

Feeling down after a bout of COVID or the flu? Poor vitamin C status has been associated with greater risk of depression following an episode of acute illness. This may because vitamin C is involved in the production of neurotransmitters that help us feel happy. Eat foods rich in vitamin C such as Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, citrus fruits, strawberries and cantaloupe to boost your immune system and your mood. The most effective strategy is to have small amounts of vitamin C rich foods spread throughout the day to maximize absorption and utilization of this powerful nutrient.
